Dr. Anna-Julia Saiger, LL.M. (King’s College)

Anna-Julia Saiger is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Freiburg. She received her doctoral degree in law from Humboldt University, Berlin, in 2022 and completed her second state examination in law in 2024 (Higher Regional Court, Karlsruhe). Previously, she obtained a Master degree in law from King’s College, London, and Università degli Studi – La Sapienza, Rome, as well as the first state examination in law from Humboldt University, Berlin/the Federal States of Berlin and Brandenburg.
Her book on climate change litigation, which was published in 2022 by NOMOS (Baden-Baden), opened a new book series on climate change law. In this book, Anna-Julia Saiger argues that domestic courts take a hinge function in the bottom-up approach of the international climate change regime: they link domestic climate change provisions to the Paris Agreement’s long-term temperature goal. Anna-Julia Saiger’s current research focuses the regulation of private power with regard to major constitutional challenges posed by the digital revolution and the triple planetary crisis.
